A Young Teen Decides Against Abortion
We are encouraged to find a growing number of teens and young adults who are more pro-life in their views than the older generation. Such is the case for “Becky” who became pregnant as a young adolescent. Unfortunately, her parents are separated and both wanted her to have an abortion. Her mother was a teen mom herself and knows the difficulties that lie ahead. However, Becky felt that she had a human life growing inside of her and was unwilling to terminate the pregnancy.
Our pregnancy supervisor, Julie, began meeting with Becky regularly. She describes her as being very intelligent, responsible, mature for her age, emotionally strong and fun-loving. Julie was also able to meet with the father of the child who is taking appropriate responsibility as well. Becky has been interested in the baby’s development each week of her pregnancy. Julie says, “She has loved him from the start.”
Because Becky has had strong spiritual values when it comes to her unborn child, her family has become much more supportive. The baby’s father plans to be regularly involved with the baby’s care. Becky also plans to complete her high school education and to go onto college in the future.
The baby was born just a few weeks ago and is healthy and doing well. Julie will continue to provide supportive services for Becky and her family for the next six months. She will assist Becky as she adjusts to her role as a new mom.
