Safe Families Provides a Home for the Homeless

familyWe rejoice this Christmas season as we remember the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Our Heavenly Father has truly been gracious by providing us with both eternal life as well as countless temporal blessings. At this time of year, we can’t help but consider others who are struggling with many difficulties in their lives.

About a month ago, a family who was in dire circumstances was referred to ECFA. A mother and her two children were homeless, and she was hospitalized after an emotional breakdown. The children had no one to care for them. Fortunately, our Safe Families Team was able to find a host family the children could stay with while their mom had a chance to get back on her feet.

Although a teenager, "Bridget" had never attended high school. The host family was able to enroll her in a special program at the local high school that is helping her catch up academically. Bridget is a determined young lady who can also be fun-loving. Our Safe Families worker says she is developing a sense of pride in herself as she is making up ground quickly in school. She struggles with depression at times but is committed to making positive changes in her life. Bridget says, “I’ve learned a lot about God since being with this family.” She is very involved with the church youth group and is making friends. She also has a wonderful time shopping with her substitute mom.

“David” has enjoyed playing with the other boys in the family. He is attending school and doing well. He also feels very close to his big sister. Fortunately, his mom has made a lot of progress since being released from the hospital. She found employment and a living arrangement as a domestic worker. David was able to return to living with her, but Bridget remains with the host family.

We are truly grateful for your partnership with us in caring for needy families and vulnerable children. For more information about how you can help, please see our Giving page.
