Becky Receives Help from Intact Family Services
It
is with grateful hearts that we enjoy this season of Thanksgiving.
We are thankful for all that the Lord has provided, and
for the wonderful opportunities that we have been given
to serve children and families in our community.
“Becky” was referred to our Intact Family Services program several months ago. At that time, she was dealing with severe depression and had been self-medicating with illegal drugs. Sadly, it was suspected that her usage may have affected her infant son, so a report was made to DCFS.
At first, she was resistant to the help her case manager, Mitch was offering. However, over time she became more trusting. She was willing to engage in counseling and submit to drug screens. She began working with her counselor and made good progress in addressing her problems. She developed very good parenting skills and Mitch says she has been doing a fantastic job in raising her son.
“Tommy” is now a toddler and is doing very well. He is on target developmentally, and he is a happy and normally active child. Becky is attending college part-time and feels positive about the direction of her life. Her depression has lifted and her drug screens have been clean for several months. Mitch says she has become a warm, receptive, energetic person with a great sense of humor.
Becky actually cried when it was time for us to complete our work with her. We are appreciative of her efforts to make changes in her life to benefit her little guy. We are also grateful for special friends who make it possible for us to carry on the supportive services of ECFA.
